Woodwork Part I – The beauty of Walnut!

When life gives you lemons …. in this case a support pole in an awkward place in the basement common area.

I designed, and constructed this custom-made side table from walnut. I love working with walnut – it’s my favourite wood. It’s often used in carving projects, custom woodworking, and of course in high quality cabinets.

Walnut is sturdy (it's a dark colored medium-hardness wood that holds up well under standard use) and grainy - great for staining and aesthetics.

Leaving it natural exposes beautiful mostly linear grains that create a ‘wow’ visual factor.

In this creation the side table seamlessly fits into the already wood-stained pole. I matched the stain of pole with that of the side table in order to blend in.

I think the results exceeded my expectations!

This side table also houses an outlet for easy plug ins for the family's devices.

Can't find that piece which will fit quite right? Let me help you create that lemony solution!

On to the next project ….
